Consider three possible relationships that might hold among:
God (G),
Evolutionary processes (E),
and the Observed features of organisms (O):
Theistic Evolutionism

|
God set evolutionary processes in motion.
Once in motion, these processes offer a sufficient explanation for the observed features of organisms.
|
Atheistic Evolutionism
|
Denies that there is a God.
But otherwise agrees with Theistic Evolutionism.
|
Creationism

|
Maintains that God set evolutionary processes in motion.
Also, God has intervened / intervenes in these processes to accomplish what these mindless processes are inherently incapable of doing.
|
The theory of evolution is neutral on the question of God’s existence and is compatible with either a theistic or atheistic stance.
However, the theory of evolution is inconsistent with creationism.
